LINDSEY'S STORY:
Ohhhhhhh my gosh - - I dont even know where to begin!!!
My wonderful Dave experience started when I scored 2 front row tickets thru Dave's charity auction on Yahoo. I was SO dead set on winning the auction that I watched the bidding process very closely for DAYS, trying to profile the other bidders. The thought of having the chance to see Dave in the front row and possibly not getting to was unbearable, so I set out to win. What also made me determined was the fact that all the proceeds would go straight to Dave's charity, The Bama Works Foundation. I had NO problem bidding agressively because I know what great work the charity does. (I wont say exactly how much I paid but the competition for these seats was INCREDIBLE) Being that close to Dave made it worth every penny! As soon as I won I was speachless!
I wanted to make an impression so I hand-glued 200 red rhinestones onto a white blouse spelling "DAVE" and also glued stones in the outline of Dave's own sketch of the "firedancer" and wore the shirt to the front row concert. It turned out great. Dave even noticed it as I stood in the front row in at the Phoenix, AZ concert. (I drove there from my home town of San Diego, Ca) He saw my shirt and got a big smile on his face and nodded at me while he was playing. It was wonderful!
But the experience of an ABSOLUTE LIFETIME came just one week later after Dave's show at Dodger Stadium, LA. I thought Dave might recognize me from front row in Phoenix just one week prior (being that I was wearing the same elaborate outfit that he noticed and liked). So, I waited near the tour buses for an hour or two after the show (that part was FINE, I could and WOULD have waited WEEKS!) I was standing there and a man approached me and said, "You were at Phoenix right? Front row center?" I said "YES.. I was!"
Turns out that this man was Eric, the personal assisstant of Boyd and Stefan!! (The drummer and bassist of DMB). We chatted about Dave for a few minutes. Eric told me that Dave was the most humble, generous, down to earth person he knows. He said that Dave would "Go out if his way... do anything to make ya happy" I didn't doubt this about Dave, I'd heard it before from many sources. I told him that I hoped to catch of glimpse of Dave sometime tonight before he leaves the stadium. Eric said, "If you want to see him, your best bet is to go around the other side, these buses are just for the crew, the band's busses are around the back." I said goodbye to Eric and thank you so much!
I then quickly took off running to the other side of parking area. JUST as I was coming around the corner, THERE was DAVE! He happened to be passing from one ungated area into another open gate that lead backstage. There were only a couple other fans that happened to be standing there as he passed thru. He was shaking hands and smiling to the fans and was almost gone thru the gate right as I got there. I thought I had just barely missed him when he turned around and saw me. Then he came BACK thru the gate to ME! He said sweetly, "Hey beautiful," and gave me a hug and kiss on the cheek! My friend that was with me asked Dave, "Do you remember her from the front row?" And Dave said "Of course!" (He could have said that just to be nice, but how many crazy fans do you see with hand-made shirts like the one I had worn to both shows, kinda hard to forget =) We then asked if we could take a quick picture and Dave said "Sure!"
He was SO nice, even though he was obviously in a hurry, he stayed long enough to make sure we got the picture and then he proceeded on to wherever he was headed through that gate. He was so sweet and generous. It was truly the experience of a lifetime.
