HEATHER'S STORY

Ok- so here is my story.

I was visiting my father in Florida and went to see DMB concert with him, who by the way I think I have turned him into a fan as well. My seats ended up being excellent 5th row seats. I could see every expression the band made, every step they took and then got right in the front row for the encore- Incredible. Having seen them so up close, I was bitten by another DMB bug...now, did I not only love their music, I had to see them up close and wanted to see them again.  Well, I got home to New York and I realized they were playing at Randall's Island two weeks later. Knowing the shows were sold out, I started to look on Ebay- low and behold I got VIP tickets. I had never gotten VIP concert tickets but I figured Dave would be worth it. I then recruited my best friend Jocelyn- whether she said yes or no, she was coming with me.

So we arrive around 4:30pm. Hit the VIP tent. Checked out our seats.......not as good as Florida but good enough. The show ended up being awesome- played all of the songs that I have always wanted to hear live, all in one set- really amazing...........But the night gets even more amazing.

We were sitting in the parking lot getting ready to go when we started talking to some tailgaters next to us........I hope they read this......because boy did they give us a good tip! So we are chatting and it turns out one of them in the bunch got to go backstage. We were a little leery if he was truly telling the truth. We end our conversation and again are on our way out when he comes back to the car window and says the name of a hotel and walks away. I close the window and Jocelyn and I both think- Dave is not really there........but we were on our way to Manhattan to meet my sister anyway so we figured we'll just have her meet us there. Having been to this hotel before for work functions, I knew the lay of the land.

We go to the bar still thinking we are wasting our time. We find my sister, sit down and order drinks. Jocelyn says, "I don't think he is here". Disappointed I take another scan and whip back around and say " who is sitting right behind me in the t-shirt" Wouldn't cha know it was Dave himself sitting all of three feet from me. The guy that actually sings the songs I play to death is sitting right behind me........I was stunned, floored...and now we are confused.....here we are, there he is, now what......We didn't really think we would see him!

We didn't want to be rude and interrupt him- he was with about a group of about 15 people, including Ashley and I think I saw Carter. I was trying not to be too obvious so I didn't stare. We are there about an hour, my sister had left at the point. It gets to be last call and we are thinking we're not going to meet him. The waiters were basically kicking everyone out including Dave's groups.

A few people from his table get up and go to the elevator- we follow them out and now we are all standing in this tiny hall way waiting for the elevator........Saddened at the thought that I got so close to meeting Dave, I was just standing there. All of a sudden I look up and who is standing between Jocelyn and I ..........Dave..........did you hear me!......DAVE. First he was sitting behind me which was making my heart stop now the guy was standing next to me. He reaches between us and says his goodbyes (I should probably know who these people were, but I have no idea). The elevator doors open- they all get on and now its me, Jocelyn and Dave standing there in the hallway..........Does it get any better then that. I mean I went to the concert wanting to see the band play up close.........and now I was standing alone in a hall way with Dave- I still don't really believe this happened.

We introduced ourselves....He was really nice and friendly. He shook our hands we talked a little about the show, told him I also saw him in Florida. We wished him good luck on the next night's show and he said he had to go, said goodbye and walked away. Although I tried to play it cool. I was nervous as anything - my mind went completely blank while talking to him.

It was without a doubt the best night of my life.....the bad part is I had no pen with me, no camera with me! I was completely unprepared. I didn't think I would actually meet the guy! Lesson learned, never say never.
